Dr. Norman K. Swazo, Professor of Philosophy & Biomedical Ethics in the College of Science and General Studies of Alfaisal University, has been invited to serve as co-editor of a special issue on Islamic Ethics of the American Journal of Islamic Social Sciences (AJISS). Dr. Swazo will co-edit the journal issue in collaboration with Dr. Yasien Mohamed, Professor of Arabic Language and Islamic Ethics, University of the Western Cape, South Africa. The special issue is scheduled for publication in July 2010.<\/p>\n
Professor Swazo also has a paper accepted by the International Scientific Committee for presentation at the 3rd Islam and Bioethics International Conference, to be held 14-16 April \u2013 2010 in Manavgat- \u00c7olakl\u0131, Antalya, Turkey. His paper is entitled, \u201c\u2018No Contagion\u2019 (la `adwa) in Islam: Between the Imperatives of Hadith and Medical Practice.\u201d<\/p>\n
Professor Swazo publishes broadly in the areas of ethics in international affairs, biomedical ethics, and recent European philosophy. He serves as peer reviewer for the AJISS, and recently published a paper in the journal entitled, \u201cRehabilitating Islamic Ethics: A Postmodern Opportunity for Islam\u201d (26:2, 2009). A book review of Abdulaziz Sachedina, Islamic Biomedical Ethics: Principles and Application (Oxford University Press, 2009) is forthcoming in the journal (26:4, 2009). Among his publications are several papers engaging Western philosophical and political engagements with contemporary Islam, including \u201cMy Brother is my king\u2019: Evaluating the Moral Duty of Global Jihad,\u201d International Journal on World Peace (2008), and \u201cExemption from the Torture Ban?
