The event is the second of a series of seven \u2013 each one focussing on a particular topic. The first challenge launched in February 2016 is titled \u201cHousing and the Integrated Neighbourhood\u201d and requires students to design a future neighbourhood of Riyadh. This second year challenge was in the form of a day long design sprint on \u201chow can urban streets be reclaimed and reimagined through the introduction of connected and autonomous vehicles?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On December 10th 2016, BuroHappold Engineering collaborated with the Architectural and Engineering Faculties at Alfaisal University to host the CAV design sprint, where student groups competed to design the most original solutions for reclaiming the streets of Riyadh in an era of autonomous and connected vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Eight teams participated from three universities Alfaisal University, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, and Prince Sultan University, and joined them high school students from the British International School (BIS), all performed well during a very intense and long day, that included lectures, brainstorming, options development and the presentation of each Team\u2019s vision for a selected street in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1848 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/10.22.4.40\/news3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/22.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"338\" height=\"254\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Seven lectures were given by Dr. Tarek Mokhtar, Chairman and Assistant Professor of Architectural Engineering of Alfaisal University; Eng. Ibrahim AlShaye, Head of Planning &amp; Environment of Arriyadh Development Authority; Dr. Jalal Nafakh, Head of Transport Planning of Arriyadh Development Authority; Mr. Muath Khlifawi, General Manager of Careem Transportation Company; Dr. Anas AlFaris, Assistant Professor at King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology \/ MIT; Eng. Ahmed Jarallal, Architect of AlAkaria Group; and Eng. Damien Ricq, Engineer of BuroHappold Company.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1849 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/10.22.4.40\/news3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/23.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"499\" height=\"344\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On December 21, the Jury members had selected the winners as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1st Place Award \u2013 Team A, Al Faisal University<\/li>\n<li>2nd Place Award \u2013 Team G, King Fahd University of Petroleum &amp; Minerals<\/li>\n<li>Honourable Mention \u2013 Team B, Al Faisal University<\/li>\n<li>Honourable Mention \u2013 Team E, Prince Sultan University<\/li>\n<li>Certificate of Participation \u2013 All Team Members<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1847 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/10.22.4.40\/news3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/21-610x382.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"382\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On March 30<sup>th<\/sup> 2017, Alfaisal University hosted an award ceremony at the female theatre. The President of Alfaisal University, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Alhayaza, Dr. Mohamed Anan, Dr. Tarek Mokhtar, and Eng. Robert Okpala (Group Director of BuroHappold Engineering) had celebrated and provided certificates to the winners of the CAV Design Sprint.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt Alfaisal University we see the great value in collaborating with Industry Partners to develop the skills of our students,\u201d Dr. Mohamed Anan, Acting Dean and Associate Professor at the College of Engineering of Alfaisal University. Additionally, \u201cwe bear responsibility towards our students who will help shape tomorrow\u2019s society; it is why we provide a sound educational platform that encourages innovation and offers the best chances of success for themselves and their communities\u201d, affirms Dr. Tarek Mokhtar, Architect, Designer, Chairman and Assistant Professor of Architectural Engineering in the College of
