{"id":3277,"date":"2019-11-28T07:04:17","date_gmt":"2019-11-28T07:04:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.alfaisal.edu\/?p=3277"},"modified":"2019-11-28T07:04:17","modified_gmt":"2019-11-28T07:04:17","slug":"role-of-homocysteine-in-cardiovascular-diseases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.alfaisal.edu\/en\/role-of-homocysteine-in-cardiovascular-diseases\/","title":{"rendered":"Role of Homocysteine in cardiovascular diseases"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Another Alfaisal achievement is to be announced, in which we have one of our graduates, Dr. Sreyoshi Fatima Alam, currently a teaching assistant at our COM, published two papers, together with Dr. Paul Ganguly and Dr. Santosh Kumar. A third paper is also accepted in a prestigious book (Springer Publisher) and should be available before the end of this year. It all started with a start-up fund given to Dr. Paul Ganguly by Alfaisal University almost a decade back to buy an HPLC (high pressure liquid chromatography system) for the measurement of catecholamines and homocysteine. The team only perfected the techniques, and also received a substantial fund later from KACST to carry out research on homocysteine. With the help of Dr. Ganguly\u2019s colleagues in Canada at St. Boniface Hospital Research Centre, Winnipeg, they were able to complete a small study and published the work entitled <strong>\u201cRole of homocysteine in the development of cardiovascular disease<\/strong>\u201d in <strong>Nutrition Journal <\/strong>in the year 2015<strong>. <\/strong>The publication has almost 400 citation in four years. The work became so important that Dr. Paul has also served as a reviewer of KACST and many International Journals on a routine basis in homocysteine research and got several invitations to speak about the importance of homocysteine in cardiovascular diseases. This summer, the team completed a difficult job by reviewing the historical perspective of homocysteine measurement that they consider has a pivotal influence on the researchers in this field. They were also successful in publishing the scholarly work entitled<strong>: \u201cMeasurement of homocysteine: a historical perspective\u201d<\/strong> in the <strong>Journal of Clinical Biochemistry and Nutrition. <\/strong>Both the journals have impact factor close to 3.0.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3279\" src=\"https:\/\/news.alfaisal.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/002-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"839\" height=\"323\" \/>Dr. Ganguly has so far published 141 papers, of which 27 papers are directly from Alfaisal University, and this was possible because of a concerted effort of our students\/graduates, COM Dean Prof. Khaled Alkattan, as well Alfaisal University.
