In weekly talks, leaders from academia, industry, and NGOs, who are at the forefront of using AI for social good, showcase AI applications that are forging positive changes in healthcare, the environment, education, technology, government and more. Like the AI Center itself, the seminar series has a broad scope, covering both new methodological contributions, ground-breaking applications, and impacts on society.<\/p>\n<h3>Seminar on Dec 7, 2021<\/h3>\n<p>On Tuesday, Dec 7th, the College of Engineering hosted <strong>Dr. Shada Alsalamah<\/strong>, Assistant Professor of Healthcare Information Systems Security at King Saud University for a seminar titled, \u201c<em>Digital Health &amp; AI: The Global Agenda 2020-2025<\/em>&#8221; as part of the AI Seminar Series. The seminar started with opening remarks, presented by the Director of Alfaisal\u2019s AI Center, Dr. Areej Al-Wabil, welcoming the guest speaker and attendees to the research center\u2019s AI Seminar Series.<\/p>\n<p>In the seminar, Dr. Shada started by highlighting the World Health Organization\u2019s (WHO) strategy for digital health, which aims to improve health by accelerating the development and adoption of appropriate digital health solutions to achieve the health related sustainable development goals (SDGs). Following that, Dr. Shada shed light on how member states in the World Health Assembly and stakeholders were urged to direct their efforts in 2018 towards creating a consistent eHealth vision in line with each country\u2019s health priorities and resources, developing an action plan to deliver the proposed vision, and creating a framework for monitoring and evaluating eHealth implementation and progress. The seminar also covered the scope of work in the<strong> AI for Health <\/strong>focus group <strong>(<\/strong>FG-AI4H<strong>)<\/strong>, a joint focus group between ITU and WHO, specifically in delivering a framework for guiding AI for\u00a0 health development and implementation. Dr. Shada presented a brief overview of the joint focus group\u2019s role in interfacing between professionals and policy makers across a broad range of fields (machine learning\/AI, medicine, public health,\u00a0 government, regulation, statistics, ethics, etc.). The seminar concluded with highlights on resources for professional development in the scope of digital health. Dr. Shada shared insights on learning resources available at OPENWHO, a knowledge transfer platform offering online courses to improve the resources for health emergencies and capacity development for frontline responders. She also shared recommendations for courses offered via the WHO Academy, which is a state-of-the art learning center bringing the very latest innovations in adult learning to global health.<\/p>\n<p>The seminar was attended by students and faculty in both the College of Engineering and College of Medicine, on campus and remotely via zoom. The event concluded with thanking the speaker and attendees for their participation, and an open discussion with the speaker.<\/p>\n<h3>AI Seminars &#8211; Guest Speaker<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Dr. Shada Alsalamah ????<\/strong> \u00a0Department of Digital Health, World Health Organization (WHO)<\/p>\n<p>An academic, public speaker, entrepreneur, former IBK-Fellow, and patient-centricity advocate. Dr. Alsalamah is a contributor to the global healthcare sector modernization movement and policymaking for better disease detection, prevention, and treatment. She has years of experience in building secure, mobile, and intelligent solutions using emerging digital technologies that solve local problems with the potential to have a global impact. Currently, Dr. Alsalamah is a full-time Consultant at the Department of Digital Health and Innovation, World Health Organization, Geneva, Switzerland; and an Assistant Professor of Healthcare Information Systems Security at King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
