Dr. Sara also highlighted the strengths and limitations of LLMs and their potential to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of clinical, educational and research work in medicine.<\/p>\n
The seminar started by showcasing how LLMs, such as GPT-4 and Bard, have rapidly evolved in terms of scale and capabilities, with profound implications for their applications in healthcare education. These models, rooted in the Generative Pretrained Transformer architecture, exhibit advanced natural language understanding and generation skills. Medical professionals often participate in patient case simulations as part of training and education. These simulations are followed by debriefing sessions to provide feedback and improve learning. In the AI seminar, Dr. Sara Maaz described an ongoing exploratory study in prompt engineering for healthcare simulation. The ongoing project is supervised by Dr. Cynthia Mosher, Simulation Educator and Course Director in the Department of Clinical Skills at Alfaisal University College of Medicine, who has teamed up with renowned experts in the field of healthcare simulation education to research this topic. Dr. Cynthia Mosher is a primary care physician with an avid passion for using simulation-based education to improve the knowledge and practice of healthcare students and professionals in various stages of their education and careers. Dr. Mosher also serves as an assistant director in the Department of Clinical Skills at Alfaisal University College of Medicine, delivering simulation-based education in clinical skills training for medical and pharmacy students. The seminar\u2019s speaker, Dr. Sara Maaz, currently serves as a Simulation Educator at Alfaisal University, and is also pursuing a master\u2019s degree in simulation from Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions (MGH-IHP). After earning her MBBS from Alfaisal University in 2020, she undertook a critical role in developing the university’s medical simulation center, leading to a significant rise in student confidence in performing clinical skills on patients.<\/p>\n
