This past weekend, Alfaisal University proudly hosted the first-ever Saudi SolarThon, an extraordinary gathering of minds focused on advancing solar energy technology. This event, held at our Dimensions INVENT Studio, attracted esteemed guest speakers from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and OptimalPV.
Over two enlightening days, these experts provided specialized training in SolarPV system design, tailored to the unique environmental conditions of our region. Participants from our Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Architectural Engineering departments benefitted immensely, gaining invaluable insights into sustainable energy solutions.
The knowledge imparted during this event was not only a profound learning experience for all involved but also enhanced my own understanding of solar technologies, making it a personal as well as professional milestone.
The highlight of the SolarThon was the exceptional performance of our student teams, who, through their ingenuity and dedication, won the competition with two groundbreaking projects. Their success has earned six of our junior students an incredible opportunity to further their expertise: KAUST has offered them a comprehensive PV Designer Certification course. This opportunity will not only prepare them for the PV Exam but also pave their way to becoming certified Solar PV experts.
This pioneering event exemplifies Alfaisal University’s commitment to the principles of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 by fostering sustainability and innovation in sustainable future, education and technology.
As we reflect on the success of our inaugural Saudi SolarThon, we are reminded of the power of partnership and the impact of education on sustainable development. We look forward to building on this success and continuing to lead the way in academic excellence and sustainable innovation.
