Alfaisal University’s 12th Annual Health Promotion Project (HPP) Exhibition Advances Patient Safety Education

On November 28, 2024, Alfaisal University’s College of Medicine hosted the 12th Annual Health Promotion Project (HPP) Exhibition, an inspiring event that highlighted the university’s dedication to advancing patient safety and medical education. This year’s theme, “Harmony in Healthcare: A Culture of Patient Safety,” set the stage for over 500 medical students to showcase innovative solutions through more than 50 interactive booths.

Organized by the Department of Family & Community Medicine, this effort reflects Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 priorities of enhancing healthcare quality and innovation, while championing the World Health Organization’s emphasis on global standards for patient safety.

Under the guidance of Vice Dean and Department Chair, Dr. Baraa Alghalyini, coordinated by Dr. Abdul Rehman Zia Zaidi with the support of faculty and staff, students tackled a wide spectrum of patient safety topics. These included medication safety and reconciliation, surgical protocols, healthcare communication, diagnostic error prevention, infection control, and the integration of digital health technologies. Other critical topics addressed maternal and child health safety, mental health support, falls prevention, healthcare worker well-being, cultural competency in patient care, and additional pressing issues in patient safety.

The interactive booths attracted over 1,000 visitors, including high school students, university peers, healthcare professionals, and community members. The hands-on projects allowed medical students to not only translate theoretical knowledge into tangible, real-world applications but also showcase their exceptional understanding of patient safety principles.

A panel of 18 distinguished healthcare executives and patient safety leaders evaluated the student projects, offering constructive feedback and facilitating valuable connections between future medical professionals and seasoned healthcare experts. Their involvement demonstrates the importance of nurturing emerging talent in the healthcare field.

The event brought together diverse stakeholders from the healthcare, wellness, sports, community service and education sectors, creating a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange and community engagement. The success of the event reflects Alfaisal University’s commitment to innovative medical education, public health promotion, and healthcare transformation. By empowering students with practical knowledge and leadership skills, Alfaisal is preparing the next generation of medical professionals to drive advancements in patient safety in Saudi Arabia and beyond.

The Department of Family & Community Medicine extends heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to this remarkable event, setting new benchmarks for excellence in medical education and community engagement.
