Alfaisal University recently hosted a delegation from the University of Bristol to celebrate the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that establishes a groundbreaking joint PhD program. This MOU, initially agreed upon virtually in 2022, marks a significant step forward in the academic collaboration between the two institutions.
The two-day visit, held from March 4th to 5th, 2024, focused on solidifying the joint PhD program. Representatives from both universities, including Professor Khaled AlKattan, Professor Matheus Goosen, Dr Liang Fong-Wong, and Professor David Murphy, were present at the ceremony.
Following the signing, discussions centered around the joint PhD program, including an overview of the collaboration and student presentations on diverse research topics relevant to the program’s focus. The visit provided opportunities for individual meetings between supervisors and their students, as well as a session for Alfaisal faculty and prospective students interested in the program.
The MOU outlines a broader framework for academic cooperation beyond the joint PhD program. This includes the exchange of teaching staff and researchers, joint development of research projects, joint organization of scientific and cultural events, and exchange of information. However, the signing of the MOU and the welcome of the first cohort of four PhD students solidify the joint PhD program as the cornerstone of this exciting academic partnership.
This collaboration is expected to open new avenues for Alfaisal students and faculty alike, fostering a rich academic environment that encourages innovation and research excellence.
