On Thursday the 5th of December, Alfaisal University successfully organized the Alfaisal University Volunteer Forum in collaboration with the Lazam Association for Voluntary Work Development. Held under the patronage of HRH Dr. Maha bint Mishari Al Saud, Vice President for External Relations and Advancement, the forum coincided with International Volunteer Day and aligned with Vision 2030’s goal to engage one million volunteers by 2030.
The Forum emphasized the significance of volunteering as a foundational value that enhances social cohesion and supports sustainable development, witnessing wide participation from specialists in the voluntary work field. Participants explored critical topics, including the role of volunteerism in economic and social progress, the challenges of volunteer work, and strategies for strengthening the governance and future of volunteering initiatives.
The event featured two key sessions. The first examined the impact of volunteering on sustainable development, focusing on its role in advancing social and economic progress and addressing policy challenges. The second session showcased the contributions of student clubs in enhancing social responsibility and highlighted successful models from Alfaisal University, Prince Sultan University, and Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University.
In her speech at the forum, HRH Dr. Maha bint Mishari Al Saud stressed the importance of volunteerism and its role in achieving sustainable development goals, developing culture of citizens and believing in their role in strengthening societies, positively linking generations, and improving the quality of life across all fields- scientific, health, sports, cultural and social. Speakers also addressed the need for skilled volunteers and greater collaboration with charities and supporting organizations.
The forum concluded by honoring distinguished figures in volunteerism, including Her Highness Princess Samira bint Abdullah Al-Faisal Al Farhan, His Excellency the Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the “Ensan” Association, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Suwailem, Dr. Nasser Al-Moosa, and Mr. Abdulaziz Al-Hussein amongst other key leaders for their contributions to the field. The event’s success reinforced Alfaisal University’s commitment to enabling a culture of giving and empowering the next generation to contribute meaningfully to society.
