Alfaisal University, represented by its Surgery Interest Group (SIG), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Saudi Arabian Chapter. This first-of-its-kind student-led collaboration with an international entity was celebrated during a two-day visit held between December 1st to 5th, 2024, which sets the stage for transformative advancements in surgical education and professional development in the region.
Representatives from both organizations expressed enthusiasm for the partnership. Alfaisal University’s delegation included Prof. Khaled Alkattan, Vice President of Finance & Administration and Dean of the College of Medicine; Dr. Akef Obeidat, Vice Dean for Quality Assurance and Accreditation, College of Medicine; and Mr. Umair Aleem, Medical Student and Director of the Surgery Interest Group. The ACS Saudi Chapter was represented by Dr. Sameh Barayan, Chapter President, and Dr. Wesam Abuznadah, Chapter Governor and Representative.
The MoU marks a significant milestone in fostering academic and professional exchange between Alfaisal University and ACS, which is renowned for its pivotal role in shaping surgical practices globally. The partnership aims to enhance surgical training, provide mentorship opportunities, and give access to international resources and expertise, supporting the growth of the next generation of surgeons.
During the visit, discussions focused on organizing educational webinars, symposia, and other events designed to provide hands-on learning experiences and promote surgical innovation. In addition to the collaboration on educational fronts, both parties emphasized the importance of expanding the professional network for surgical students and practitioners, creating a stronger community of healthcare professionals in the Kingdom.
