The Annual Engineering Design Expo and 6th Boeing Competition and Award Ceremony took place on May 8th and May 9th, 2024. This event served as a platform for graduate and undergraduate students to showcase their innovative engineering projects across various specializations.
A total of 116 projects were evaluated by 35 judges, who assessed them based on criteria such as innovation, feasibility, and technical merit. With the participation of 300 students, winning projects were recognized in each track, with prizes awarded for first, second, and third place.
The projects presented at the event encompassed tangible models, simulations, and a wide range of innovative solutions to address contemporary problems. Students had the opportunity to present their work to a diverse audience, including fellow students, professors, university administration, and representatives from the college of engineering advisory board members and Boeing. This facilitated valuable feedback from industry experts and allowed students to gain experience presenting their work in a professional setting. Beyond technical skills, students also developed important soft skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.
The competition comprised six tracks, representing different engineering programs at Alfaisal University, namely: Architectural Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, and Master of Engineering & Systems Management (MEM). The Awards Ceremony was attended by H.E. Prof Mohammed Alhayaza, President of Alfaisal, Dr Khalid Kattan, VP Finance & Admin & Dean, College of Medicine, Mr. Asaad AlJomoai, President of Boeing Saudi Arabia, Dr Muhammad Anan, Acting Dean of the College of Engineering, and Engineering Advisory Board Members, Eng. Anees Abdallah, Head of Strategy and Government Relations, Boeing Saudi Arabia, Dr. Zaina AlHejin, Head of Communications, Boeing Saudi Arabia, as well as faculty and students from the College of Engineering. These distinguished guests extended their congratulations and presented the awards to the winning teams. The keynote speaker for the event was Mr. AlJomoai, the CEO of Boeing in Saudi Arabia, who delivered an inspiring talk on “Engineering and Aviation,” sharing his experience and expertise with the students. The presence of several representatives from Boeing further highlighted the strong collaboration between academia and industry.
The College of Engineering at Alfaisal University expressed their deep appreciation and sincere gratitude to Boeing, the faculties, students, and the organizing team, led by Ms. Rana Alsohaily, the Academic Affairs Supervisor, as well as the Facility, IT, and MC departments. They also acknowledged the unwavering support of Alfaisal’s leadership.
The Alfaisal Engineering Design Expo and the 6th Boeing Competition serve as just one example of the numerous opportunities available to students to explore their passions and create a positive impact on the world.
