AU Team among top 10 innovative services teams in Absherthon

On October 10, 2020, a team of Alfaisal Electrical Engineering alumni participated in the Absherthon Challenge with an innovative device called “Connected Car Plates”. The Absherthon is launched by the Ministry of Interior to encourage and empower creativity and innovation, to employ new technologies that will help in creating new processes and developing the technical aspects of the ministry and for using the new technologies by joining Absher Oasis.

The team, composed of Eng. Hala Bin Dehaish, Eng. Aljawharah Alzahrani and and Eng. Mohamad Dawood Owais, started  the challenge back in March, 2020, along with 10000 other participants. Overall, the 8000 ideas were submitted in the challenge into two tracks , Improve Existing Service and Introduce Innovative Service to Absher Platform. The Alfaisal Team participated in the Innovate Service track, and their solution qualified among the top 10 in the semi-final round.

The students’ idea involved innovative solution that provides accurate data to identify critical locations and major traffic problems. It therefore assists in defining measures to increase efficiency and safety in traffic management.

Eng. Hala praised the Absherthon organization and challenge, noting that it was “fun and informative”, while Eng. Owais noted appreciated the “opportunity to innovate and compete”. Eng. Aljawharah praised the Absherthon organization and ladder structure, and added that “it was exciting to see our idea make it through the final stages.”

The achievement was celebrated by CoE. Dr. Guizani (Chair, EE) highlighted that the project started as a casual graduation project in the students’ final year. “Capstone is the highlight of a students’ efforts in their education,” he noted, “and students’ achievements follow from their high caliber as well as the level of supervision and support they receive.” Dean Anan (CoE) further commented that “this is a further indication of the high relevance instilled in our education, and how market-ready our students are as they graduate.”
