Alfaisal University is committed to creating a dynamic environment that empowers young researchers and students to share their innovative ideas. As part of this commitment, the university is proud to join the Falling Walls Lab community, a global network of interdisciplinary pitch competitions for students and early-career professionals.
The first ever Falling Walls Labs was held at Alfaisal University on Wednesday the 11th of September. Falling Walls Lab provides a platform for participants to present their groundbreaking ideas in a concise and compelling manner using a three-minute pitch. The competition encourages participants to think creatively and propose solutions to pressing global challenges.
The Competition was open to all students and early-career professionals, not just those affiliated with the university. Seven talented individuals had the opportunity to showcase their breakthrough ideas to a panel of interdisciplinary judges. The competition featured a diverse range of topics, from biotechnology and fintech to AI solutions and policy proposals.
We are thrilled to announce that our alumna, Aljohara Albabtain, Senior Researcher at Nanopalm, has emerged as the winner of the first-ever Falling Walls Lab Riyadh 2024. Aljohara’s groundbreaking research on biorobots and gene therapy impressed the judges, and she will now have the opportunity to present her work at the Falling Walls Science Summit in Berlin. Additionally, she will be participating in an extended DAAD program to explore German research centers and foundations, finding opportunities to network and promoted her idea. She will also be a part of the Falling Walls Alumni Association with access to workshops, panels and other resources.
The second placewas secured by Abdul Rahman Sukar, College of Medicine student at Alfaisal University, for his research idea focusing on Women with Parkinsons’ Disease whereas the third place went Lara Samhan, currently a medical Intern at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre for her idea using AR and VR technology solutions to assist the visually impaired.
