Alfaisal University achieved remarkable success in the challenging 24-hour IEEEXtreme 18.0 programming competition, proudly ranking as the top university in Saudi Arabia among 106 local and 10,079 global teams.
Leading Alfaisal’s outstanding performance, team 165kg (comprised of Saleh Alghannam, Kerem Demirboga, and Razan Abu Owaimer) secured 1st rank in Saudi Arabia and an extraordinary 29th place globally, positioning them within the top 0.3% worldwide. Alfaisal’s 27 teams, representing 73 students, excelled across all marathon coding challenges, with other notable teams including Bench226, led by Moussa Hameed, in the top 0.6%, and Coding Reality, led by Majd Awad, in the top 1%. 5 Alfasial University teams were found among the list of top 11 locally out of 106 teams in Saudi Arabia and managed to have 2 teams were among top 100 teams worldwide and 4 teams in the top 200 teams globally among 10079 participating teams from the most reputable universities worldwide.
Teams Alfaisal6 (Abdullah Aldawood, Saif Hamdan, and Abdelrahim Alreefi) and Tech21 (Mohamed Thamer, Abdullah Ahmed, and Adnan Khalil) ranked in the top 1.7% and 3% globally, while M10M (Mohammed Alaaldin, Mazen Hamze) and RSL (Rahaf Alqahtani, Siwar Raslan, and Leen Yarkhan) achieved impressive top 3.7% and 4% ranks.
Alfaisal’s participants included 70 Software Engineering students (28 seniors, 41 sophomores, and 1 junior) and 3 Electrical Engineering students, with 39 holding IEEE student memberships.
The event was executed by the IEEE Student Branch at Alfaisal University, under the guidance of the branch’s counselor, Eng. Hoda Elsayed, who played a pivotal role in organizing and mentoring the participants.
In the closing ceremony, Dr. Muhammed Anan, Dean of the College of Engineering, commended all participating teams and encouraged them to strive for top ranks in future hackathons.
He also recognized the contributions of proctors Prof. Nidal Nasser, Dr. Areej Alwabil, Eng. Hoda Elsayed and Mrs. Moshira Ali, with special thanks to Dr. Muhammad Umair, SE Department Chair, for supporting the teams on competition day.
