October 16th, 2023: Alfaisal University was pleased to welcome Eng. Mohammed Alagil, sponsor of the Rhodes Scholarship for Saudi Arabia, and Dr. Elizabeth Kiss, Warden of Rhodes House and CEO of the Rhodes Trust at Oxford University in the UK. The Rhodes Scholarship is the oldest and most prestigious scholarship in the world, and the Rhodes Scholarship for KSA was started in 2019. Last year, one winner of the Rhodes scholarship was a graduate of Alfaisal University.
An informative session was held with Dr. Kiss, a group of undergraduate students from different colleges at Alfaisal, members of the advancement office, and Dr. Emily Wilson, who is the faculty mentor for Alfaisal students who are interested in applying for the scholarship. Dr. Kiss spoke about the many benefits of attending graduate school at Oxford and becoming part of the Rhodes community. Rhodes alumni include many of the world’s top leaders in business, science, industry, and politics. Dr. Kiss discussed ways that students could start thinking about how to communicate their experiences effectively and engagingly on their scholarship applications.
The students then had a “meet and greet” with university President Dr. Mohammed Alhayaza, HRH Dr. Maha bint Mishari Al Saud, and Eng. Mohammed Alagil.
