On September 25, 2024, Alfaisal Univeristy in collaboration with the Saudi Society for Medical Education – Riyadh Chapter (SSME), hosted Professor Helen Batty for an enriching hybrid seminar titled “Integrating Reflective Portfolios in Clinical Settings.” Held at Alfaisal University’s Male Theatre and broadcast via Zoom, the event brought together medical educators, clinicians, and healthcare professionals from across the region.
Executives from medical education institutions across Saudi Arabia attended, highlighting the event’s significance to the broader medical education community. Professor Batty, an expert in faculty development and medical education, shared her insights on using reflective portfolios to improve clinical practice, foster professional development, and enhance patient care outcomes.
The keynote was followed by an engaging Q&A session where attendees discussed real-world applications of reflective portfolios and their practical integration in clinical education, resulting in valuable exchange between the attendees and Professor Batty.
The Alfaisal University Department of Family and Community Medicine (AU-DFCM) organized the event, with contributions from Dr. Baraa Alghalyini, Dr. Racha Khaled, Dr. Abdul Rehman Zia Zaidi, Dr. Rawan Elshaer, and Dr. Farah Almasri. Dr. Muhammad Faisal Ikram facilitated the virtual side of the hybrid session. Dr. Ikram fielded live Zoom questions, while Dr. Baraa Alghalyini managed the in-person session and captured audience feedback.
The evening concluded with a gala dinner and an outdoor campus tour, providing attendees with an opportunity to network, share experiences, and engage in insightful conversations with Prof. Batty and their peers. This event underscored the growing emphasis on integrating reflective practice in clinical education, paving the way for future collaborations and innovations in healthcare education.
