Our Alfaisal’s 4th year medical student Ms. Raghda Adwan attended and presented her research at the American Epilepsy Society (AES) Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, USA which was held from December 5-9. The research presented was entitled: “Mesial Temporal Lobe Epilepsy with Hippocampal Sclerosis in Association with Anti-Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase 65 Antibodies” a team work involving King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, National Guard Health Affairs, and Alfaisal University researchers. The conference brought together clinicians, researchers, and industry professionals from around the world to discuss recent advances in epilepsy research and clinical care. As a poster presenter, Ms. Raghad had the opportunity to present this research to an international audience, engage in academic discussions, and receive feedback from experts in the field, and a lot was learned from the exchange of ideas with fellow poster presenters. Attending exhibits and scientific sessions provided exposure to current approaches in epilepsy diagnosis and management, ongoing clinical trials, and novel therapeutic strategies. The conference also offered valuable professional exposure through getting the chance to meet neurologists, neurosurgeons, and leaders in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors. This experience helped improve scientific communication skills and the general understanding of academic research, and increased the motivation to pursue further involvement in research and academic medicine, which ultimately reflects as academic and professional development.
