Preserving Saudi Arabia’s natural heritage takes dedication, and Munira Alhazani, an Alfaisal University alumna, has embraced this mission with passion and purpose. As the founder of the Saudi Arabia Botanical Society, she has been working to protect native plant species, promote environmental awareness, and encourage community involvement in conservation efforts. While involved in environmental projects at Let It Be Global, Munira and her colleague Joshua Van Alstine identified a gap in knowledge about Saudi Arabia’s flora and the role of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in the field. Inspired by her deep appreciation for native Saudi plants and her connection to Al Hareeq, an area known for its farms, Munira was driven to take action. This passion led to the launch of the Saudi Arabia Botanical Society, a platform dedicated to raising awareness about the importance and conservation of the Kingdom’s native plant species.
Since its establishment in 2018 and its official registration in 2020, the society has focused on seed banking, botanical garden development, and public education programs, all aimed at creating a more sustainable future. Munira’s efforts are rooted in a belief that small, collective actions can lead to meaningful change. She has collaborated with research institutions, local organizations, and volunteers to ensure that Saudi Arabia’s plant life is preserved for future generations.Munira hopes to inspire greater community participation by providing people with the knowledge and tools to take part in environmental stewardship. Through workshops, awareness campaigns, and partnerships, she continues to engage individuals in simple but impactful ways to protect the country’s natural beauty.
A graduate of Alfaisal University’s MBA program (Class of 2013), Munira remains grateful for the education and experiences that have helped shape her journey. She believes that with dedication and collaboration, everyone can play a role in making a difference—one plant at a time.
