On February 20th, Farrokh Derakhshani, the Director of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture since 1982, visited Alfaisal University to deliver a captivating talk on the theme of “Inclusive Architecture.” Derakhshani is renowned for his global engagement with architects, builders, and planners, with a particular focus on Muslim countries. His expertise lies in contemporary Muslim architecture, where he oversees large-scale projects, delivers international lectures, and serves on boards of cultural institutions. In 2018, he was honored as an International Fellow of RIBA.
During his enlightening presentation, Derakhshani provided valuable insights into the history of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture. He discussed its origins, the diverse categories it encompasses, the meticulous selection criteria employed, and showcased the exceptional winning projects that have been recognized over the years.
