The Aspiring Physician program was launched by Alfaisal University as an enlightenment experience offered to high school students interested in pursuing Medicine as their future career. The program aims to familiarize the students with basic medical knowledge as well as helping them develop clinical skills. Besides medical mastery, the program intends to help the students acquire various social, technological, and professional skills that will evolve and fine-tune their personality and prepare them for the college life and the working world ahead.
To achieve its goals, the program is presented as a 3-week intensive course of 6-7 hours daily, conventionally starting at 11:00 AM, where students have theoretical sessions as well as various hands-on practices, workshops, and anatomy labs. Theoretical sessions usually adopt problem-based methodology through which the students will earn early clinical reasoning skills and learn more about common societal diseases concerning various body systems such as the cardiovascular, central nervous, digestive, and respiratory systems. Clinical skill sessions and labs teach the students how to interpret the results of diagnostic investigations such as electrocardiogram (ECG), electroencephalogram (EEG), and radiological imaging. Students are also able to identify variant body tissues under the microscope and learn more about the human anatomy on dissected cadavers available at Alfaisal University’s Anatomy Resource Center. Workshops like the “Basic Life Support (BLS)” & “Saving Procedures” train the students to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies and efficiently perform high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations, provide early use of an Automated external defibrillators (AED), and intubate patients.
Additionally, to prepare the upcoming generation to the rapidly evolving medical and technology continuum, the program embodies sessions about the role of Artificial Intelligence & Augmented Reality games in the medical world nowadays and the scientific research writing. Moreover, social communication skills are gained through the various group activities and competitions the students participate in. The program boosted the resumes of many students who participated in the previous cycles while applying for national and international prestigious universities and helped them choose their future careers soundly.
After its monumental success in the previous cycles, The Aspiring Physician program will be re-launched this summer where it will encompass several new clinical and soft skills workshops, technological sessions, and group activities.
