On February 8th, 2024, students and faculty members from Alfaisal University’s engineering department actively participated in the Future Talents Program held at the World Defense Show 2024. The program aims to engage and inspire the next generation of innovators, providing them with the necessary knowledge and skills to pursue successful careers in the defense and security sectors. This exhibition served as a valuable platform for our students, offering them insights into the future of defense and highlighting the significant role of engineering in shaping it.
The event also facilitated networking opportunities, enabling students to expand their professional connections and explore potential internship opportunities.
One notable project showcased by the Software Engineering department was the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)-Assisted Guidance System for Mortar Guns and Short-Range Missile Targeting. This project, led by Dr. Ahmad Sawalmeh and Dr. Muhammad Anan, integrates advanced UAV capabilities with a highly maneuverable ground cannon to achieve precise targeting. The system utilizes real-time GPS data relayed by the UAV to enable the ground cannon to align with target coordinates accurately, autonomously executing mortar launches.
Additionally, Alaa Alshthri, a Mechanical Engineering student, presented her capstone project on the development of a process to embed electronic devices into structural composites. She showcased a proof-of-concept prototype that featured a battery embedded into carbon-fiber composites.
This project, funded by the Prince Sultan Defense Studies and Research Center (PSDSARC), will facilitate the integration of electronic devices into structures such as drones and vehicles. The project team consisted of Alaa Alshthri, Thukra Alrejaee, and supervised by Dr. Zuruzi Abu Samah and Eng. Athiq Khazi.
