Thursday – 27th of August: Alfaisal University start-up Accelerator “Dimensions” announced the 4 winning projects in its COVID19 3D Printing Hackathon, and the winners were awarded by Alfaisal University President HE Dr. Mohammad Alhayaza
The competition was created in collaboration with King Faisal Specialists Hospital, to create innovative safety equipment using 3D printing techniques to help minimize, or eliminate the spread of COVID19. The competition was launched in May 2020, and concluded its activities on Thursday 27th of August with the participation of 7 projects and 24 students.
The winning projects are:
- 1st Place: Finger Knob
- 2nd Place: Improved Mask Design
- 3rd: Comfortable, usable mask
- 4th: Face Shields.
The competition went through many stages, the ideas were first submitted to “Dimensions” which shortlisted the projects after an initial evaluation then assigned mentors for the shortlisted projects. The following 5 weeks were planned as below:
Week 1: Online workshops on 3D modelling and printing
Week 2: Online mentorship sessions
Week 3: 3D printing and fabrication of the models
Week 4: Final presentation, winning teams announcements and awarding ceremony.
