On Wednesday the 29th of November, the International Medicine Interest Group held a Diabetes Awareness Campaign on campus. Diabetes is a chronic health condition that impacts the way the body turns food into energy, currently impacting millions around the World.
This awareness campaign aimed to raise awareness about diabetes and the risks associated with diabetes. The students disseminated information, dispelled common myths and emphasized the importance of early screenings. They also encouraged evidence-based preventative measures such as dietary interventions and physical activity.
According to the World Health Organization, Saudi Arabia ranks seventh in the World for rate of diabetes (second in the Middle East region) making this a pressing concern.
The International Medicine Interest Group partnered with organizations, including FLOD healthy food, Yogi and Abbott to help amplify the message. The Group hopes to educate more people, reduce the stigma surrounding diabetes and continue building a community that supports those affected by the condition.
