Master Textbook Error Detector Hussam Mohammed Izzat Abou Al-Shar is becoming a polymath with expertise in anatomy, physiology and molecular medicine. Hussam, who just completed his first year of Medicine, has this past academic year identified four Figure errors and one Table error in “Gray’s Anatomy for Students”.
These errors will corrected in the next edition according to Dr Richard L. Drake, one of the authors of this popular anatomy text. Hussam has also identified an error in the chapter on acid-base balance in the textbook of Medical Physiology by Drs Guyton and Hall. This was a rather subtle error on the phosphate buffering system where the text states that the strong base NaOH is traded for a weak base NaH2PO4. NaH2PO4 is a weak acid not a weak base. The text should have stated: NaOH is traded for a weak base Na2HPO4. This error will be corrected in the next edition of the text.
