In a testament to her dedication to philanthropy and community well-being, Sarah Haque, a 3rd year medical student at Alfaisal University, has earned the prestigious Elaji* Charity’s Philanthropic Achievement Award. The Elaji Charity is a national advocate for accessible healthcare, aiming to alleviate the financial burdens of patients facing financial constraints. This recognition not only celebrates Sarah’s commitment to humanitarian causes but also applauds her endeavors in integrating healthcare and societal welfare in the Kingdom.
She established the public health platform @healthkhair on Instagram, inspired by the teachings of her Community Medicine course offered by the College of Medicine, Sarah founded Health Khair— a public health initiative dedicated to introducing simplified Saudi-focused health statistics, figures, and information to the community. Be it through raising awareness of annual cancer screenings, promoting preventive health practices, or encouraging organ and blood donations in the Kingdom, Sarah has exemplified a proactive approach to community health education. On her online platform, Health Khair, she has created a database for mental health clinics in the Kingdom alongside the National Commission of Mental Health (NCMH).
Additionally, she actively collaborates with local healthcare organizations and pharmacies, including partnering with over 13 online therapy platforms and clinics that specialize in offering psychological support in both English and Arabic.
Her passion for well-being led her to focus on the health of migrant workers in our community. Through “Health Khair” Sarah offers medical consultations, health screenings, and helps connect workers with doctors when needed. This project recognizes that accessing healthcare can be challenging and aims to support the well-being of everyone in our community.
As Sarah receives this Philanthropic award, it is apparent her efforts reflect not only her personal enthusiasm to make impactful change, but also of the humanitarian-focused community of Alfaisal University. Sarah recognizes the efforts of Vice Deans Dr. Baraa Alghalyini and Dr. Akef Obaidat for their continuous support on her venture. The College of Medicine, she proclaims, provided her with the knowledge, skills, and encouragement necessary to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others through the unique fusion of medical expertise and compassion.
