Alfaisal University hosted the Third International Corporate Governance Conference from December 11- 12 in Riyadh, under the theme “Beyond Compliance: Reimagining Corporate Governance in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” Organized by the Alfaisal University Corporate Governance Center in partnership with King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre, the event was held at the Intercontinental Hotel, bringing together prominent academics, policymakers, business leaders, and legal experts to address the evolving challenges and opportunities in governance amid rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI).
The conference was held under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Majid bin Ibrahim Al Fayyadh, CEO of King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre featuring distinguished international speakers, including Professor Oliver Hart, Nobel Laureate in Economics from Harvard University; Professor Alex Edmans from London Business School; and Dr. Sean Kao, Director of the Artificial Intelligence Initiative for Capital Market Research. Their insights, alongside contributions from other experts, enriched discussions on integrating AI into governance frameworks while maintaining transparency, accountability, and ethical decision-making.
In his keynote address, His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Al Hayaza, President of Alfaisal University, highlighted the pivotal role of governance in achieving the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals, particularly within sectors like healthcare. He emphasized the growing engagement of the private sector in governance practices, which was reflected in the Corporate Governance Index for 2023, announced during the conference. Distinguished companies were honored for their exemplary governance practices based on the Alfaisal University Index.
The event explored themes such as balancing stakeholder and shareholder interests, leveraging AI to foster sustainable growth, and addressing governance challenges in a rapidly evolving global economy. The Corporate Governance Center lead a panel discussion delving into governance’s role in enhancing corporate performance and mitigating risks associated with AI-driven business practices.
Her Royal Highness Princess Maha bint Mishari Al Saud, Vice President for External Relations and Development, reiterated the significance of fostering governance across sectors to support the Kingdom’s transformation efforts. The conference concluded with actionable insights for building resilient governance systems that align with Saudi Arabia’s aspirations for global leadership and innovation.
This annual event continues to position Alfaisal University as a thought-leader in governance and sustainability, advancing critical conversations that drive progress across industries.
