On December 11th, 2019, Alfaisal University’s Software Engineering Instructors and Alumna, Eng. Hoda Elsayed won the 2nd place prize in the ArabNet Ideathon Competition with her join mobile application project “AGZA”, concerning drug interaction is vexatious and the national health system
AGZA is a drug-food-herbs interaction detector that will ensure a safe medication intake for patients considering their medical conditions, diet and fasting habits. AGZA will have both Arabic and English interface to serve around 3 million patients within the kingdom in its initial phase. AGZA aims to increase the patient awareness about which food or herbs should be avoided when taking their prescribed medications. It will guide patients to find the safe customized alternatives through Advanced Artificial Intelligence Techniques based on patient’s medical condition and medications’ list. It’s designed to be the first drugs application that can help Muslims re-schedule their drugs during Ramadan and other fasting days. AGZA project is supervised by Dr. Muhammad Anan, Acting Dean of Engineering and Associate Professor of Software Engineering. The project will be implemented in collaboration with Dr. Khaled Kattan, Dean of CoM at Alfaisal University, and Dr. Mariam Galal, COM Alumni at Alfaisal University.
The idea was submitted during ArabNet conference, a leading events, insights and innovation programs that focuses on tech business and innovation in the MENA region. ArabNet organized major conferences for the technology sector in Dubai, Riyadh, Kuwait and Beirut, produce original research and reports focused on the technology sector; and organize custom-tailored innovation programs for corporates and governments. AGZA mobile application was selected to be one of the top 10 finalist ideas in ArabNet Ideathon, among 100s of applications submitted from various Middle Eastern countries and it was presented on the 10th of December, and won 2nd place prize the following day.
