Alfaisal University Signs Strategic MoUs with Tokyo University of Technology and SpaceData to Advance Deep Tech and Space Innovation

Riyadh, January 11th, 2026: Alfaisal University has announced the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Tokyo University of Technology (School of Design) and SpaceData to advance joint initiatives in deep tech and space innovation. The agreements were signed by HRH Princess Maha Mishari Alsaud, the University’s VP for External Affairs and Advancement, in the presence of H.E. the Saudi Minister of Investment and Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry.

The MoUs establish the Deep Tech & Space Innovation Lab, creating a platform for Saudi-Japanese collaboration in research, talent development, and commercialization of advanced technologies. Led by Noor Alsaadoun, Director of Alfaisal’s Innovation Center, the lab will serve as a foundation for sustained co-creation and commercialization pathways, with Tokyo University of Technology and SpaceData as core partners.

These agreements will enable collaborative research, structured training programs, and applied projects, bridging the gap between innovation and market-ready solutions while positioning Alfaisal University as a regional leader in advanced technologies.

The agreements will focus on:

  • Shared Research Infrastructure: A joint space and digital-twin research facility at Alfaisal University to support collaborative faculty–industry–student projects.
  • Talent Development: Launch of the AU-TUT Space Innovation Fellowship & Training Track, providing structured fellowships, short courses, and hands-on capacity building to cultivate Saudi talent through exposure to advanced labs and applied projects with Tokyo University of Technology and SpaceData.
  • Joint R&D and Co-Development: Collaborative research and co-development in priority areas, particularly digital twin technologies for space applications, generating actionable deliverables beyond standalone academic activity.
  • Pilot Execution: Alfaisal Innovation Center will serve as the national execution platform, operationalizing collaboration through testbeds, coordinating stakeholders, and transforming training and research into validated pilots and demonstrators.
  • Commercialization and Long-Term Partnership: The MoUs establish pathways for IP development, future joint initiatives, and industry engagement, positioning the collaboration as a sustainable corridor for technology localization and market impact.

The impact of these partnerships will be measured through talent creation, knowledge transfer, and new digital-twin use cases leveraging space data—reinforcing Alfaisal University’s strategic vision for space technology and positioning it as a regional leader in advanced technologies.
