On Tuesday, Nov 24th, the College of Engineering hosted Mohammed Hadhrawi, Research Associate at the Center for Complex Systems at KACST and MIT for a seminar titled, “Data Visualization in AI-Driven Systems” as part of the AI Seminar Series.
Mr. Mohammad Hadhrawi is a Research Associate in the Center for Complex Systems (CCS) at KACST and MIT, and the Chairman of the Saudi Rowing Federation. He completed his postgraduate studies in Computer Science at the University of Cambridge, and received an MSc from MIT’s Media Lab, and was a Teaching Fellow at Harvard’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
The seminar highlighted advances in data visualization for AI-driven Decision Support Systems (DSS) and recent developments in tangible platforms dedicated to solving spatial design and urban planning challenges. The seminar showcased tools that ranged from simulations for quantifying the impact of disruptive interventions in cities to communicable collaboration applications.
Insights from developing and deploying these tools around the world via MIT’s Media Lab and maintaining open source repositories for the majority of deployments were discussed. Following that, Hadhrawi presented use cases of AI-driven interactive visualizations designed for non-technical stakeholders in applied domains such as infrastructure development, urban planning, education, sport, fitness and health. He shared reflections on his previous work at the University of Cambridge in the scope of tangible programming languages that support education in applied computing for K-12 curricula, and the digital platforms for group negotiation and decision-making that were developed at MIT’s CityScope group.
The event was attended by the graduate students enrolled in the Applied Computation and Data Science MEM 507 course, and undergraduate students enrolled in the Introduction to AI SE 444 course. The event concluded with thanking the speaker, participants, and the organizing committee for their participation and an open discussion with the speaker.
