Alfaisal Faculty Member Dr. Mateen Ahmad Khan Publishes Book “Iron Neurodegeneration” Outlining Importance of Iron Mis Regulation and Neurodegenerative Disease such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of dementia. It affects about 50 million of people worldwide, and this number is estimated to grow to 82 million by 2030 and 152 million by 2050. So, this epidemic disorder is concerning for public health, with efforts focused on its prevention and treatment. Dr. Khan’s research interests are directed toward understanding the mechanism of gene regulation of iron metabolism and how it impacts on neurodegenerative disease process. An Associate Professor of Biology in the Department of Life Science at Alfaisal University, Dr Mateen A. Khan recently published a Book on the “Iron Neurodegeneration” in LAMBERT Academic Publishing Germany. The long-term goal of his work is to develop better methods for therapeutic intervention in neurodegenerative diseases.

“The University is very proud of the quality of the research output produced by its faculty member Dr. Khan, Department of Life Sciences, College of Science”.

This book, Iron Neurodegeneration, explains in detail how iron metabolism is regulated and how this affects the development of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. The main goal is to understand how amyloid aggregates via Amyloid Precursor Protein mRNA translation and potential therapeutic targets for neurodegenerative illnesses. This book is meant for a broad readership: expert professionals will find the in-depth descriptions and discussions helpful, while students, researchers, and scientists who are new with the subject will benefit from the broad introduction that offers a strong intellectual background.
