College of Business Executive Lecture Series “Performance Management Process” April 24th, 2024

College of Business invited Dr. Nawaf Alhusseini to be part of CoB’s Executive Lecture Series. Dr. Nawaf is a retired HR Executive, worked as an Assistant Professor at King Saud University and held leading positions in different Saudi banks and other Saudi organizations.

The lecture titled “Performance Management Process” was presented to the audience and College of Business students. It took place on Wednesday, April 24th, 2024, in the Lecture Theatre (F) from 12:00 to 12:50 PM.

Dr. Nawaf initiated the lecture by explaining the concept of performance management and underscoring its significance. This comprehensive, organization-wide endeavor involves all levels of staff and is conducted annually. Performance management plays a pivotal role in enhancing employee performance and ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.

However, one significant challenge is the subjectivity and bias that can influence performance evaluations. Managers may have their own biases, conscious or unconscious, which can affect how they assess employee performance. Additionally, employees may perceive the evaluation process as unfair if they feel their contributions are not accurately reflected. Another challenge is the evolving priorities, as circumstances change, whether due to market shifts, technological advancements, or internal restructuring, priorities must adapt accordingly.

To address these challenges, organizations can implement several strategies. One approach is to incorporate objective performance metrics and data-driven evaluations into the process. By using quantifiable measures of performance, providing regular feedback and fostering transparent communication organizations can reduce the impact of bias and ensure fairness in evaluations. Moreover, organizations can invest in technology to streamline the process, empower decision-making to all levels, and regularly review the goals and priorities.

The lecture is part of College of Business Executive Lecture Series. It provides Alfaisal University students and guests from the business community the opportunity to learn from some of the country’s leading executives and leaders as they talk about their experiences.  College of Business sponsors the weekly Executive Lecture Series to bridge the gap between the world of leadership and business education.
